These
are the lightest iaito that we can source. Why? Because iaido is a
highly repetitive art, and there are times when you need a light blade
to keep practicing. In the past these were usually wooden blades but we
have created an aluminum blade that looks, sounds and is sized exactly
the same as an iaito or a shinken. We use the lightest blade and the
lightest fittings to make blades that, at 2.45 shaku are between 500
and 570g including the tsuka.
We have our first batch of 10 iaito at 2.45 which can be adjusted by us
down to 2.35shaku. We have ordered another batch which will cover the
size range of 2.5 - 2.6 shaku.
In addition to their extreme lightness, we are also able to offer these
blades, which are constructed correctly, at the price of a wall-hanger.
We can do this because we are the OEM.
These are iaito for use for those who are injured, need a very light
blade for special training, or just can't handle a full weight iaito.
If you're interested, just remember these are specialist tools for
training, they are not intended to replace a proper iaito of correct
weight and stiffness. They might be tempting for beginners due to the
price but I doubt they will stand a lot of nonsense. They were created
with maximum lightness in mind and it remains to be seen how much
strength they have in them.
An experienced person will have no problems but
careless beginners might.
